Lawrence Wong, an active violist performs frequently in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. Born in Hong Kong, Wong grew up studying music both privately and in school. He has played in the school’s orchestra and has performed as a soloist and principal violist on multiple occasions. At the age of 14, Wong performed as a soloist with the Wien Residenz Orchestra. In 2023, Wong had been selected as a Musicus Society Young Artist.
In 2016, Wong began his degree at the New England Conservatory in Boston, under the tutelage of Marcus Thompson. An avid chamber musician, he has performed with the Chestnut Trio in Hong Kong and is one of the founding members of the Blanche Quartet, which has been awarded as the 2019-2020 NEC Honors Quartet. Through winning the award, Wong was able to tour around the greater Boston area and connect with more performance opportunities. Wong has also received chamber coachings from world renowned chamber musicians such as David Finckel, Joseph Lin, Merry Peckham, Mai Motobuchi, and Soovin Kim. As an advocate for the performing arts, Wong strives to reach more audiences along with his quartet, who aim to share their knowledge on how to appreciate the performing arts.
Wong has performed with many different orchestras and conductors, including NEC’s Philharmonic Orchestra with Hugh Wolf, the Juilliard Orchestra with David Chen and David Robertson, Moscow Players with Yuri Bashmet, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Finnish Tapiola Sinfonietta, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been involved in the NEC Baroque Ensemble since 2018; as well as had joined performances with Ouyang Nana during his studies in Boston. He graduated with his master degree from The Juilliard School studying with Carol Rodland and has completed an exchange program at Columbia University, New York in 2022 studying marketing research.
